In our constant attempt to be greener not only for the environment but for our bodies, we've started to throw out ALL of the plastic in our house and began to replace it with glass containers. (Here's a short little article about why glass is safer.) We're going to start with food storage and we'll see if we get as far as our toiletry items like shampoo and lotion bottles (yes, some people actually take the product out of the plastic bottles and put them into something safer!)
Another bonus about using glass containers for storage? They're so pretty! Check out Weck Jars (below) and also Bed, Bath Beyond for plenty of safe, affordable, glass storage options.

We've also ditched plastic water bottles for glass as well. My favorite is Ello bottles since they have the silicone sleeve around the entire bottle so you don't have to worry as much about dropping it and when you open the lid it makes a fun little popping sound (it's the little things...) plus they come in lots of pretty colors. You can find them at Target.
And last but not least - Mason jars. We all know by now there are 101 uses for Mason jars and of course food storage would be one of them but they're a great affordable option. You can find them in packs of 12 at Amazon and Target for around $10-$20. So start storing!
And let me know if you've come up with other storage solutions to reduce your use of plastic. I'd love to hear them!
